POSITION SUMMARY: Provides oversight of operations in the areas of career exploration, employability and certification training, job placement and support to high school seniors preparing for post-graduation options and successfully transitioning to independence. This position also oversees the scholarship process, staff, community stakeholder relationships, and the workforce development efforts at the affiliate sites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Oversees workforce development efforts with the goal of providing participants with the education and support necessary to make strong, suitable post-graduation decisions.
  • Collaborates with community stakeholders and consumers to develop and design programs to assist participants in transitioning to the workforce.
  • Develops and implements strategies to acquire business sites for participant placement, to promote successful participant performance, and to maintain positive relationships with the business community.
  • Oversees the Boys Town scholarship process and serves as a member of the Scholarship Committee.
  • Provides oversight and leadership to the Scholarship Specialist intending to provide the Scholarship Charter, Successful Futures leadership, and applicants with the information, responses, and resources in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinates with Youth Care to develop intervention strategies necessary to improve participant performance in community work settings.
  • Oversees the engagement process between participants and employers to ensure quality of the program and a positive experience for participants.
  • Coordinates partnerships with educational institutions.
  • Supports career exploration opportunities by exposing youth to non-degreed careers and enrolling them in individualized certifications and vocational programs.
  • Provides training via workshops and one on one conversations with employers regarding soft skills training, unique coping skills training, and workforce readiness training; coordinates and secures presenters for workshops.
  • Provides oversight and leadership to the Engagement Specialist to provide opportunities to program participants in terms of education and employment.
  • Ensures participants are matched with job shadowing, internship, and job placements, and other resources. Coordinates career fairs.
  • Responsible for continuous development, implementation and marketing of the program and activities.
  • Promotes the program by serving on task forces and relevant workforce development committees within the community.
  • Manages the program budget including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses, and monitoring expenditures.
  • Processes intake and enrollment of youth into the program and coaches, supports and advocates for youth.
  • Engages youth in motivating activities and offering stipends to incentivize ongoing participation through completion of the program and job retention.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
  • Meets with contacts at various locations; utilizes own vehicle and Boys Town vehicle to travel to work destinations and to transport youth as authorized.
  • Establishes and oversees the fundamental operations of the Workforce Development program.
  • Develops and implements strategies to acquire business sites for student placement, to promote successful student performance, and to maintain positive relationships with the business community.
  • Determines appropriate job settings suitable for student interests, aptitudes, and skill levels to provide safe environments for students, to promote student success and to accommodate business interest while maintaining positive school system and business relationships.
  • Partners with affiliate sites to oversee, coach and mentor the creation and implementation of the Workforce Development program.
  • Collaborates with Youth Care on Youth employment efforts.
  • Provides oversight and leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Youth Employment at Home Campus.
  • Provides oversight and leadership in the development, coordination, and monitoring of procedures conducted to ensure the implementation of the Workforce Development program at the affiliate sites.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out the Father Flanagan's Boys' Home mission.
  • Directs all activities towards the fulfillment of the Boys Town mission
  • Directs all actions to reflect the values and principles of Boys Town

    • Knowledge of a variety of behaviors and circumstances that may impact one's performance in various work environments.
    • Working knowledge of state and federal child labor laws and worker permit regulations.
    • Knowledge of work demands and work ethics across a variety of business settings.
    • Organizational skills to independently manage youth in school to work experiences.
    • Analytical skills to interpret participant assessment results, behavior, work capabilities, and potential to be successful in post-secondary education.
    • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality; communication skills needed to relate effectively to participants, family teachers, faculty, administrators, and business owners and their employees.
    • Knowledge of the post-secondary opportunities available to participants with interest and demonstrated success in the Career Readiness Center programs; understanding of the post-secondary education application process and the process to receive post-secondary financial aid.
    • Ability to design and conduct evaluation activities regarding child behavior problems.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.
    • Knowledge of the Boys Town Model and of the Family Home Program.
    • Ability to successfully lead a team of associates. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
      • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school required.
      • Master's degree preferred.
      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management required.
      • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience required.
      • Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual MVR, plus provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed) to complete travel requirements of the job. Must meet auto insurance requirements established by Boys Town policy and/or State and Local laws.
      • Available to provide crisis response and must be available to work non-traditional business hours including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays required. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES, AND LANGUAGE SKILLS: N/A PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE: Extended periods of time in a classroom environment or at a keyboard, workstation, or desk; reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees, youth, or families. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is in a normal educational school administrative or classroom environment and will also be performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions, escorts, etc.) to casual and leisurely, in both indoor and outdoor settings and may be subject to outside weather conditions occasionally. Includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from youth.
