36.00 Salary Range: $21.00 - $31.50 Job Summary The Lead Medication
Assistant is responsible for organizing and assigning tasks to
resident assistants to ensure that the care plans for residents are
executed and documented as required. This role involves
understanding and delivering appropriate care tailored to the
physical and psychological needs of adult and elderly residents
according to their care plans. The Lead Medication Assistant serves
as a vital communication link among resident assistants. Key
responsibilities include: Providing direct care to residents and
collaborating with additional resources to plan and implement care
for all individuals in their household. Playing a significant role
in the resident admission process, orienting new staff and
students, and collecting data on performance indicators. Executing
tasks assigned by the supervising nurse and other managers within
the blended household. Assisting with basic health care needs,
including daily living activities such as bathing, grooming,
dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and offering
psychosocial support. Maintaining the household environment during
scheduled shifts. Helping residents with mobility, including
transferring, repositioning, and walking, using appropriate
techniques and equipment. Administering prescribed medications as
delegated by a licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations.
Documenting outcomes related to resident care, medication
administration, behavior, activities, and dietary needs.
Communicating any changes in condition, medication follow-ups, and
care-related concerns to the charge nurse. Supporting wellness and
recreational programs and encouraging resident participation.
Assisting nursing staff with procedures as needed and collecting
non-invasive body fluid specimens. Utilizing cost-effective
measures while ensuring quality care. Participating in departmental
or organizational committees and task forces as required.
Qualifications High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
(GED) is preferred but not mandatory. Preferred minimum age of 18
years. At least six months of experience as a Certified Nursing
Assistant (CNA) is preferred, along with prior clinical or nursing
assistant experience in long-term care. Must complete yearly
department-specific competency testing and maintain a record of
continuing education credits, with a minimum of 12 hours required
annually based on state regulations. Must maintain all required
certifications specific to the department. When applicable, a valid
driver's license and auto insurance may be necessary.
State-Specific Requirements: Iowa: Requires CNA certification with
the State Board of Nursing, which must be maintained. Successful
completion of a state-approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant
course is required after obtaining CNA certification. Minnesota:
Must have nursing assistant certification, complete a 75-hour
course, and be registered with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant
Registry. Successful completion of a state-approved Trained
Medication Assistant course is also required. North Dakota:
Requires CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, which
must be maintained. Successful completion of a state-approved
Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course is required after
obtaining CNA certification. Medication Assistant I certification
is needed for Assisted Living or Basic Care facilities, while
Medication Assistant II certification is required for skilled
nursing facilities. South Dakota: Must successfully complete the
state-approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course, which must
be maintained with the State Board of Nursing. For all facilities:
Must have the state-required certified/trained medication aide
certification (CMA or TMA) and active certified nursing assistant
registration in the state of practice, or the ability to obtain it
