Health to find a qualified Med/Surg / Ortho RN in Omaha, Nebraska,
68124! Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered
Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Ortho Trauma Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2
years License: License required for submission Certifications: BLS
required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: Candidates must not be employed
in any full-time, part-time, or PRN positions with any associated
facilities. Description: The department is focused on providing
Medical Surgical and Ortho care. Candidates must adhere to the
fingernail policy, which prohibits artificial nails. Refusal to
comply with the policy may result in termination. RNs must pass a
pass/fail exam on the skills learned during orientation. All
necessary resources will be provided to ensure a passing score.
Candidates must receive at least 90% to pass the examination. The
unit consists of 55 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6.
Common diagnoses and types of patients include joint replacements,
fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy,
cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and
patients with failure to thrive. RNs will be required to titrate
drips, including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine, while PCA pumps
are commonly used. There is a charge nurse available on each shift,
and the charge nurse will take an assignment. Patient care
technicians are present on the unit with ratios of 1:10-20.
Tele/monitor techs will interpret telemetry, while RNs should have
some awareness of telemetry monitoring. Shifts will be scheduled,
and limited block scheduling may be approved. Weekend work will be
required every other weekend. Holiday requirements include working
2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year's. Floating to other
medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a
MedSurg bed is a requirement. Nurses are required to wear navy blue
scrubs. Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 days. The unit
employs mechanical lifts in every other room and emphasizes hourly
rounding and responsiveness. Successful nurses are those who can
