Athletic trainers are part of the Sports Medicine Team which is made of a variety of healthcare professionals. They are the leaders taking care of athletes to make sure they are performing to their full potential. We cannot say enough how important our Athletic Trainers are to our team!

Some of the things that you will do in this position:

• Assess and administers immediate care on a variety of athletic injuries to ensure safe, accurate care and treatment and communicating with coaches, parents, physicians and Sports Medicine Coordinator as appropriate.
  • Serve as an Athletic Trainer to assigned events for high schools, colleges, professional organizations and other organized elite programs to ensure the safety of the participants in the event of an injury.
    • Uses population specific knowledge to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meeting the needs of the particular age groups served.
      • Provides rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries along with taping, padding, stretching, strength and conditioning. In addition to equipment fitting services to all athletes and coaches to optimize safety and prevent injury.
        • Demonstrates the practice of Athletic Training consistent with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) code of ethics, departmental policies/procedures and State rules and regulations.
          • Functions in the Outpatient Physical Therapy clinics as support staff outlined by the Sports Medicine Coordinator or appropriate individual(s) to assure the optimal delivery of therapy services. Examples: back screens, stretching, exercise monitoring, ultrasound, hot/cold packs, filing, copying, admitting, billing etc.
            • Provide coverage to the Saturday Morning Sports Clinic to assure the Athletic Trainer's involvement and assessment are part of the treatment planning consistent with the physician's instructions.
              • On-going collaboration with physicians and medical staff in the development and implementation of safe and effective sports training protocols. Demonstrates proper exercise technique to clients of the Alegent Health Sports Medicine Program. Recognizes contraindications to exercise. Experience
                
                Preferred:
                
                A minimum of three years of progressive experience in athletic training, sports medicine, physical therapy or related field. Experience in performance-based aspects preferred (e.g., sport-specific strength training and conditioning, post-rehabilitation training, individual pre-participation screens).
                
                
                
                Education/Licensure
                
                Required:
                
                Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
                
                Certified as an athletic trainer from the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers.
                
                Must be licensed as an Athletic trainer in the State of Nebraska/or Iowa upon hire. Must be licensed in the state of practice.
                
                BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say "Professional Level-with AED", and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
