JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Central Service Technician

Immediate Supervisor: Materials Manager Status: Non-exempt
DEPARTMENT FUNCTION/JOB OVERVIEW Assists with processes and tasks
in the supply and equipment functions within the clinical services
facility management system. Works in collaboration with the patient
care and case management systems, facilities management system,
materials manager, buyers, and Central Supply Specialist to
purchase, track, and distribute to clinical units patient supplies
and equipment items needed for daily use. Special orders supplies
when needed. Recommend process improvements in order to have the
right supplies and equipment to the right place timely and at the
most efficient cost. Contributes to the financial and quality
outcomes as it relates to the facility management system and to
Madonna as a whole. Assist with the revisions of the supply and
equipment functions' operational definitions. Adheres to all
Madonna's operational definitions. Work will be performed in an
ethical and legal manner following organizational policies,
processes, protocols and procedures . Responsible for quality
service delivery and internal/external customer relations for
Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for
the department and facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (INFORMATION)
A. Daily tracking of equipment on all areas as scheduled.
B. Receives rental equipment and takes to appropriate area.
C. Incorporates corporate goals and objectives into daily
operations.
D. Adheres to annual budget.
E. Maintains and updates the computerized inventory system.
F. Completes reports as instructed by function leader.
G. Develops, maintains a patient care equipment storage center with
required par equipment levels.
H. Cleans, disinfects, distributes and retrieves patient care
equipment.
I. Assists in the Purchasing Department as needed. (PEOPLE)
A. Communicates with members of the clinical service systems to
insure supply and equipment needs are being met.
B. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions
as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department
and/or system.
C. Adheres to Madonna's operational definitions.
D. Attends and contributes to function meetings.
E. Attends all mandatory inservices.
F. Develops and expands expertise in all areas of equipment by
reading journals and attending related educational opportunities.
Incorporates knowledge to improve processes.
G. Adheres to all state, federal, CARF, CDC regulations.
H. Practices safe working principles. Assists other staff to reduce
risk in the work place. (THINGS)
A. Operates computer to process and develop reports, maintain and
track inventory and equipment.
B. Operates telephone, e-mail, voice mail, calculator, pager,
copier for day-to-day operations.
C. Handles supplies, loads supplies, unloads supplies.
D. Receives and coordinates deliveries and returns of equipment and
supplies.
E. Handles and operates small tools to make minor repairs on
equipment.
F. Maintains and ensures a safe environment for the department.
Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required
duties according to established safety standards to maintain
compliance with regulations and prevent injury.
G. Assist with ensuring cleanliness of equipment and
environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Must be able to lift
maximum of 35 pounds and frequent lift and carry of 20 pounds. Must
tolerate occasional standing of 1-2 hours during 8-hour period with
45 minutes of sustained standing. Must tolerate occasional sitting
throughout the work shift. Must tolerate constant walking
throughout the work shift with up to 2 hours of sustained walking.
Must tolerate occasional periods of carrying throughout the shift.
Must tolerate frequent pulling throughout shift. Requires
sufficient strength to produce 50 pounds of force to push/pull a
bariatric bed on tile and carpet. Must tolerate occasional to
frequent low level, horizontal, and overhead reaching with right,
left and both arms. May be exposed to biohazardous materials.
Requires normal hand strength based on national averages for age
and gender. Requires sufficient sight to see and read reports and
computer screen. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking to
communicate by phone or in person.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training and/or Experience) High school
equivalency or knowledge level. One year experience in inventory
control dealing with stocking and/or distribution or healthcare
experience required. Knowledge of medical supplies and medical
equipment preferred. Either training and/or basic computer and
calculator skills required. Background checks are conducted. When
specific authorization forms are requested so that full background
and history can be obtained, employees/applicants must sign the
