Position Summary The Omaha Symphony Chief Strategy and Impact Officer is a dynamic, innovative decision-maker who serves as the primary driver of content creation with a focus on implementing the organization’s strategic imperatives, invigorating the art form and concert experience, broadening and deepening community relationships, embracing social consciousness, and achieving fiscal and organizational strength.

In coordination with the Leadership Team, the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer oversees all season content including subscription structure and programming, educational programming, community engagement work, festivals, major projects and initiatives, and ancillary events to align with the Omaha Symphony’s strategic imperatives.

The Chief Strategy and Impact Officer collaborates with the President & CEO, Music Director, and all areas of the organization to ensure that the Symphony’s presentations have the necessary resources, are of the highest possible artistic quality, and in service to the Omaha community while operating within the financial constraints of the organization and its long-range forecast.

The Chief Strategy and Impact Officer reports to the President & CEO and leads the Artistic, Education, Community, Production, and Orchestra Operations teams.

Position Duties and Responsibilities Leadership

Clarify the Omaha Symphony’s Strategic Vision to the team

Engage, inspire and challenge the Leadership Team to translate the Omaha Symphony’s Strategic Vision into artistic action that realizes that vision

Serve as the primary driver of content creation with a focus on invigorating the art form and concert experience, broadening and deepening community relationships, embracing social consciousness, and achieving fiscal and organizational strength

Drive the execution of key strategic initiatives such as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, strengthening programs that serve our community, and fostering Audience Development in all areas of content creation

Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, participating in the development of organizational strategy and execution

Facilitate, train and support the Artistic, Education, Community, Production, and Orchestra Operations teams

Establish clear, challenging performance goals and metrics for each season and manage team performance to deliver results that exceed expectations

Manage departmental expense and revenue budgets in collaboration with the President & CEO and Board of Directors. Continually assess the effectiveness of expenditures to ensure the most efficient use of resources

Serve as one of the primary liaisons to the community and as a public spokesperson as necessary

Identify opportunities internally and externally to build relationships that will help the Omaha Symphony achieve its objectives and connect with people

Actively participate in Omaha Symphony concerts and functions Develop and manage relationships with the Omaha Performing Arts Artistic and Production teams

General Season Planning

Develop and align all season content including subscription structure, educational programming, community engagement work, festivals, major projects and initiatives, and ancillary events with the Omaha Symphony’s strategic imperatives, in coordination with the Leadership Team and in tandem with the VP of Artistic Administration

Manage cross-departmental season planning timelines in coordination with the Leadership Team

Envision the impact of technology on the future of orchestral productions

Drive electronic media strategy and long-range planning in coordination with President & CEO, Music Director, and Chief Revenue & Advancement Officer

Drive long-range planning in coordination with Operations Team and Leadership Team

Articulate, communicate and facilitate a touring strategy based upon the Omaha Symphony’s Strategic Vision

Artistic, Community, and Educational Planning

Contribute to, develop, advise, and implement the long-range artistic vision of the organization in coordination with President & CEO, Music Director, Collaborative Partners, VP of Artistic Administration, and the Leadership Team

Serve as primary liaison to Collaborative Partners

Drive the development of major projects including festivals, semi-staged and multi-media productions, and organizational collaborations

Serve as lead producer for major concert production projects, including oversight of artistic vision, production quality, and project P&L

Facilitate strategy development and artistic direction for education and community engagement initiatives based on listening and learning from our community to create meaningful, authentic, mutually beneficial programs and lasting relationships

Personal Attributes and Competencies The Omaha Symphony’s Chief Strategy and Impact Officer is a rapid and effective decision maker who is comfortable driving immediate and sustainable change.

They have a results-driven and team-oriented work style characterized by an imaginative approach to problem solving and the ability to handle creative as well as administrative tasks.

They are a “Doer” with the mandate, credentials, and desire to act as well as advise and are able to work at 50,000 feet, 500 feet, and 50 feet.

They are a strategist with the ability to present a seamless picture of short-, medium-, and long-term strategies, and to focus the team on successful execution of those strategies.

They can work with and influence people across the entire organization and beyond with candor and tact while challenging thinking to break down barriers to change.

They possess an intimate knowledge of the function of technology and human capital, which are central to strategy execution.

Minimum requirements include: Experienced professional with a minimum of ten years of experience in arts management

Demonstrated success in leading complex teams, developing new initiatives, and actioning strategies

Demonstrated success in managing teams to drive results

True passion for classical music and its ability to impact communities

Knowledge of production best practices, tools, techniques, and trends

Outstanding oral and written communications skills

Exceptional people skills and unwavering commitment to outstanding customer service

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and the ability to learn and use industry standard database software

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Professionalism, discretion and teamwork orientation

Thorough grasp of budgeting procedures, ability to make accurate revenue and expense projections

Willingness to work evenings and weekends

Compensation: Executive level, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes medical and dental insurance, retirement match as well as paid vacation and flexible personal days. Full-time, exempt.

Celebrating its 100 th anniversary season in 2020/21, the Omaha Symphony is committed to excellence, innovative programming, education, and collaboration. Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Thomas Wilkins, the Omaha Symphony serves over 120,000 through mainstage concerts, music education programs, and community engagement initiatives. The symphony’s greatest resource is its 70 professional musicians (42 core; 28 per service). Each year the symphony provides more than 50 culturally enriching and entertaining live orchestral performances in six distinct mainstage concert series - MasterWorks, Pops, Rocks, Movies, Family, and Chamber. The Omaha Symphony’s vibrant Susan Morris Adventures in Music education series encompasses seven core programs, and annually serves nearly 25,000 pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students, educators and administrators from over 300 schools. The programs are interactive, adhere to Nebraska Standards for Education, and are built upon one another so that students have the opportunity to participate from preschool through high school for a continuous learning experience.

In addition, the Omaha Symphony is committed to providing responsive and accessible arts opportunities to the community at large through its Community Engagement Program that creates meaningful music experiences beyond the concert hall.

Maestro Wilkins will end his 15-year tenure with the 20/21 season. Ankush Kumar Bahl will take the baton as Music Director in July 2021.
