This is a temporary assignment expected to last 11 months from
Location:Fort Atkinson State Historical Park in Fort Calhoun,
Examples of Work
Under administrative direction and oversight of the Park
Superintendent III, will assist with administering, managing, and
supervising the following; park facility maintenance,
grounds-keeping, visitor center management, artifact
inventory/maintenance, events, and other park-related operations.
Duties will include grounds-keeping, cultural and natural resource
management, trail maintenance, event coordination/planning,
equipment and facility maintenance, and campground management.
Assist with the development and implementation of events and
activities including: living history programming, wayside exhibits,
visitor center displays, special events, partnership development,
and volunteer coordination.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in park/recreation management or
a related field; (wildlife, fisheries, natural resources sciences,
public administration, history, cultural resource preservation or
interpretation, travel and tourism, and planning) AND one year
related experience. Related coursework/training and/or experience
in park/recreation management or related field may substitute for
the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
OTHER: Driver's license is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience and/or education related to park management; natural
and cultural resource issues, techniques, principles and practices;
public education and interpretation of cultural and natural
resources; knowledge of park, museum, or visitor center operations
including resale, customer service, permit sales, and financial
management. Ability to plan, manage, analyze and evaluate park
activities and events; establish and maintain community and public
relations with businesses, special interest groups, and state,
local and federal agencies; communicate clear and effectively;
plan, direct and evaluate the work of subordinate personnel;
establish and maintain effective working relationships with
employees, other agencies and the public; enforce park rules and
regulations; perform physical tasks such as grounds-keeping and
