Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSEThis dual position contributes to the CHI Mission and Values by providing both Palliative Chaplain support and Clinical Pastoral Education. As Palliative Chaplain the incumbent will provide spiritual, religious and emotional support to palliative patients and their families and to advance competence of palliative spiritual care across the system. As CPE Educator the incumbent will provide individual and group supervision of CHI Health CPE program participants seeking professional development and/or practical ministry experience in preparation for lay and ordained ministry leadership and/or board certification.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESPalliative Chaplain (50%)1. Assess, provide and document comprehensive spiritual, religious and emotional care of palliative care patients and their families at Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy. 2. Work as a liaison between the palliative care team and the pastoral care departments at all Omaha palliative inpatient consult sites. 3. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to interdisciplinary plans of care that address patient/family physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs (i.e. pain, confusion about diagnosis, etc.)4. Fulfill teaching responsibilities to undergraduate medical students, graduate medical residents, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine (HPM) fellows enrolled at Creighton University.5. Provide expert level guidance to the system implementation of clinical, operational and educational interventions designed to promote equitable access to high quality palliative care - including research, quality improvement and operational innovation.

CPE Educator (50%)6. Provide individual and group supervision for participants in CHI Health CPE residency and internship programs including admission interviews, curriculum design, didactic instruction and student evaluations.7. Contribute to the development and implementation of palliative care rotations for residents and a palliative care chaplain fellowship.8. Participate in scholarly activities with learners9. Facilitate team growth and team care activities to support team health including learners and providers. 10. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Master of Divinity or equivalent
  • ACPE Associate Certified Educator
  • APC or NACC Board Certified Chaplain Eligiblity
  • Experience in hospice or palliative care chaplaincy service
  • Ability to chart effectively
  • Experience with program innovation and development
  • Accepting and understanding of diverse religious beliefs and practices
