Title: Benefit Specialist Benefit Administration General Functions
and Purpose: Assist in the day-to-day operations of the various
benefit programs offered through the CLT&E Benefit Office.
Areas of concentration include the administration of various
employee benefit programs such as health, dental, vision,
disability, and life. Must develop a thorough understanding of the
benefit programs and applicable standards, rules and regulations
associated with group benefit programs. Specific Duties and
Responsibilities: DATA ENTRY / RECORDS ADMINISTRATION:
- Monitor, maintain and coordinate the eligibility files for all
plan participants in both electronic and paper form. Perform data
entry as necessary to ensure that the member files are accurate and
up to date. HEALTH & WELFARE:
- Monitor and maintain the enrollment process for all plan
participants. Issue new enrollment packets to newly eligible
individuals and ensure that the Benefit Office has received and
recorded the proper documentation. Ensure that such information has
been accurately recorded and maintained within the computer
systems.
- Monitor, maintain and process all vision and disability claims
in accordance with the terms of the Health & Welfare Plan and all
applicable rules, regulations, and industry standards. Maintain
individual files for claims paid once the claims are
adjudicated.
- Serve as the Plan s COBRA administrator. Monitor monthly
reports and provide termination notices as necessary.
- Coordinate the adjudication of all life insurance claims with
the Fund s third-party administrator. Serve as a resource for the
families and/or beneficiaries of the deceased.
- Serve as the first point-of-contact for inquiries regarding the
benefit programs. Assist in the office operations, including
ordering supplies and the distribution of office mail. Related
Duties and/or Skill Sets:
- Top candidates should possess at least two (2) years of
experience with group benefit plans. Must be able to develop a
thorough understanding of the CLT&E health & welfare plan and
be able to communicate such in a clear and accurate fashion.
- College level coursework in human resources, public
administration, business administration or employee
benefits/compensation or a related filed is desirable. Significant
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service/communication skills needed, both
over the phone and in person.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with a wide variety of people from various
socio-economic backgrounds.
- A working knowledge of employee benefit plans, including
familiarity with the general terminology associated with health
insurances plans is desired.
- Ability to operate a personal computer timely and accurately,
including data entry. Knowledge of Microsoft products; i.e. Work,
Excel required.
