JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job
Functions)
Provide advanced programming efforts relative to natural gas driven
reciprocal, turbine and electrical compressor systems. Interface
with Company engineering and construction, field operations, other
technical services departments and third-party vendors/contractors
to ensure safe and efficient operation of said equipment.
(40-50%)
Provide advanced programming efforts relative to natural gas
compressor station auxiliary systems and interface with Company
engineering and construction, field operations, other technical
services departments and third party vendors/contractors to ensure
safe and efficient operation of said equipment. (15-25%)
Develop software simulation applications for new applications to
ensure programs can be tested and to allow testing of existing
controller programs for the change control review process.
(15-20%)
Provide input to engineering and construction, field operations,
technical services and planning groups to assure the design,
installation and operation of control systems meet Company,
governmental and industry codes and standards. (10-15%)
Interface with the controls system IT security team to ensure
control system hardware and software solutions adhere to Company
cyber security Policies and Guidelines. (5-10%)
Review programming changes for programmable logic controllers and
human machine interfaces relative to the change control process and
assist in the development of scopes of work and implementation
plans relative to the change requests. (5-10%)
Work on process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiencies of
control system operation. (5-10%)
Perform site visits to develop project scope documents to be used
for project budgeting and engineering purposes. (3-5%)
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of engineering aspects of
Company's control systems; evaluate, select and apply standard
programming techniques, criteria and procedures; and use judgment
in making adaptations and modifications.
Recognize, investigate and solve problems relating to Company's
automation control systems.
Participate in a lead role on project teams resulting in
contribution to achievement of project goals and objectives.
Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames
and with a high degree of accuracy, and complete project
assignments to meet customer needs, schedule constraints and
reliability objectives.
Establish and maintain effective work relationships with internal
and external contacts.
Maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills
necessary to effectively complete responsibilities by taking
personal responsibility for determining and scheduling professional
development and training classes within budgetary constraints.
Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company
information.
Attend work on a regular basis and support the Company's employee
policies and procedures, including workplace safety rules.
Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed;
understand and comply with all policies, codes and regulations
applicable to position and company.
Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, automation or related technical
field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of
related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates
applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's
degree).
Five years of experience with automation of rotating equipment or
heavy industrial equipment preferred.
Knowledge of multiple PLC software and hardware platforms
including: Rockwell, ContlLogix and Rockwell FactoryTalk
Technical skills related to computer and control system networks
including Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, local area networks and
human machine interface distributed systems.
Engineering knowledge of natural gas industry standards and codes
preferred.
Must be able to handle shifting priorities and multiple projects
concurrently.
Must be able to work in a functional team with peers geographically
dispersed across Northern.
Must be able to make positive contributions in a team-oriented
environment with a willingness to support team objectives.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must possess a high level of commitment and personal
initiative.
Critical thinking and decision-making skills to develop and present
technical recommendations and resolutions of complex problems in
stressful situations.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
