Job Description Summary /n GENERAL SUMMARY: /n/n The Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses ultrasound technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum. /n/n /n/n PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: /n/n 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. /n/n 2. *Performs ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, neuro, small parts, interventional and Doppler. /n/n 3. *Uses sterile technique as required for invasive procedures. /n/n 4. *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and transducer selection. /n/n 5. *Competently operates all ultrasound equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, and offsite Radiologist Services. /n/n 6. *Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, etc., to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies. /n/n 7. *Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality. /n/n 8. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care. /n/n 9. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy. /n/n 10. *Participates in the departments quality improvement plan as required. /n/n 11. *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed. /n/n 12. *Keeps work area properly supplied. /n/n 13. *Participates in the training of the diagnostic medical sonography students and provides general support of their clinical education; completes required documentation as indicated and adheres to the expectations of the Bryan College of Health Sciences General Sonography program. /n/n 14. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures. /n/n /n/n EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: /n/n Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in the practice specialty of abdomen and OBGYN required within three (3) months of hire date. Prior certification in neonatal neurosonography or certification in pediatric sonography within twenty-four (24) months of date of hire required. /n/n /n/n OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: /n/n /n/n Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. /n
